Speaker: Alan
Burton-Jones formerly UK Director of leading multinational British Oxygen's
European computer services business, now operates an international management
and IT consultancy practice based in Australia. Alan is a frequent speaker
on the international conference circuit and regularly conducts seminars
and workshops on learning and knowledge management in Australia, Asia
and Europe.
Recent international conferences at which he has presented papers include:
World Open Learning Conference Birmingham UK, Strategic Management Society
Annual Conference Berlin, University of California Berkeley Knowledge
Forum, IIM Pacific Rim Conference Australia, Australian Human Resource
Institute National Conference, Australian Conference on KM for Decision
Support Monash University Melbourne, and the Intellectual Capital Symposium
in Tokyo. His writings are frequently published in leading professional
and business journals.
Alan has led consultancy assignments on behalf of many leading international
organisations, including Coca-Cola Amatil, Colonial Mutual Group, Fluor
Daniel, ICI, Lumley Insurance, Unisys, Australia Post, and Queensland
Government . He has also contributed to projects involving The Bank of
England, Lloyds of London, Marks and Spencer, and McDonnel Douglas,
Alan is currently researching knowledge-based approaches to improving
work organization and human resourcing practices in both private and public
sector organizations. He is actively involved in KM projects throughout
the Asia-Pacific Region and also acts as the Asia-Pacific Learning and
KM Council Representative for The Conference Board of New York. He contributed
to the development of the first national KM Framework published by Standards
Australia in 2001.
His recent book, " Knowledge Capitalism: Business Work and Learning
in the New Economy", (Oxford University Press 1999) was widely acclaimed
by the business community and the Japanese translation( Nikkei 2001) was
a business bestseller. It has also been chosen as a recommended text in
a number of academic courses including the UK Open University's MBA program.
