Intellectual
Capital and Other Knowledge in Modern Economies: Distinguished Public
Lecture
Venue: Hong
Kong University, Wang Gung Wu Lecture Hall
Time: 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.
Speaker: Professor
Gary S. Becker, University of Chicago
Professor Gary
S. Becker is one of the most prominent and influential economists
of today. He is currently University Professor of Economics and
Sociology at the University of Chicago and Senior Fellow at the
Hoover Institution at Stanford University. He was awarded the Nobel
Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 1992 for having extended
the domain of analysis to a wide range of human behaviour and interaction,
including, inter alia, investment in human capital, behaviour of
the family and household, crime and punishment and market discrimination.
In doing so, Professor Becker has stimulated economists to tackle
new problems, which have previously been dealt with by other social
science disciplines such as sociology, demography and criminology.
At the University
of Hong Kong, Professor Becker will speak on "Intellectual
Capital and Other Knowledge in Modern Economies." As the world
becomes increasingly knowledge-based, Professor Becker's lecture
would provide us with much insight on the functioning of the modern
economy.
